Dermatologic Surgery Unit

The Dermatologic Surgery Unit, based at the University Hospital of Modena, conducts sponsored phase II, III, and IV clinical trials as well as non-profit observational studies focused on the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and epidermolysis bullosa (EB). Specifically, the Unit carries out clinical trials on investigational biologic and non-biologic drugs for HS, as well as investigational topical therapies and gene therapy protocols for different forms of EB. In addition, the Unit promotes non-profit observational studies. These activities contribute to the development of a structured clinical platform for systematic data collection, cohort characterization, and patient access to new investigational therapies.

Endocrinology Unit

The Unit is located at the Baggiovara Hospital (Modena) and has research activities in the framework of the Unit of Endocrinology. Studies focus on membrane G protein-coupled receptors and their signal transduction pathways, to elucidate molecular mechanisms involved in hormone-related skin pathophysiology and epidermolisis bullosa-related cancer. Our techniques rely on advanced signalling and genetics studies by bioimaging, gene expression and cell biology techniques, such as 2D and 3D cell cultures, droplet digital PCR, fluorescence microscopy, bioluminescence resonance energy transfer, homogeneous time-resolved fluorescence, etc.
